Last night I participated in a Zoom artist reception for the Marin Society of Artists' show "ALL ABOUT WOMEN 2023". It was a lot of fun and I am honored to have been selected for the show and to be included in such an accomplished and talented group of artists.

During the reception several artists mentioned quotes that inspire them. I also have an ongoing list of quotes about art--and life--that inspire me and thought it would be fun to share them with you dear reader:
“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”
-Rumi, 13th Century Persian Poet
“Despise despising yourself.”
“Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art.”
"Strength is: to take life as it is and, unbroken by life—without complaining and overmuch weeping—to do ones work powerfully."
“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”
"At first, I felt proud when someone said, "your work looks like a man did it.” Then I realized that was stupid."
"When you are not attached to praise or criticism, an interesting freedom is yours."
"Collectors are stewards in taking care of the art."
"Women wearing pants is powerful, it's strong, everybody accepts it, and it's associated with the patriarchy. It's associated with being male. The minute a man puts on a dress it's disgusting. So what are you saying? Men are strong, women are disgusting. I'm not doing that anymore. I'm done with that."
