This is the second painting in my series celebrating the 5 Senses: Seeing, Hearing, Tasting, Smelling, and Touching. Anyone can participate in this collaborative project by simply filling out the short survey on my website: https://www.mosstudiocr.com/5sensesartproject
I sort the responses by state, looking for trends, and once identified, I create a painting around those answers.
In this case, the painting is based on the following survey results from Colorado:
NOSE: Rain and plumeria flowers
EYES: Sweeping landscapes, aspens, and pink clouds
TONGUE: Chocolate (brownies), beer, and cheese
EARS: Flowing water and rain
SKIN: Grass and dogs
It took a while for me to decide how I wanted to combine all of those things in one painting, but eventually I realized they could be found when two people take a break from hiking to enjoy a scenic overlook with snacks. The background is based on photos I took hiking near Silverton, CO, and the objects in the foreground were real, in the studio, under specific lighting to mimic the colors this type of sky would create in life.
