This is the first painting in my series celebrating the 5 Senses: Seeing, Hearing, Tasting, Smelling, and Touching. Anyone can participate in this collaborative project by simply filling out the short survey on my website: https://www.mosstudiocr.com/5sensesartproject
I sort the responses by state looking for trends and once identified, I create a painting around those answers.
In this case the painting is based on the following survey results from Texas:
NOSE: Baking and lilacs
EYES: Loved ones, trees, blue sky, and rich colors
TONGUE: Spicy salsa
EARS: Campfires and waterfalls
SKIN: Soft blankets and yarn
When thinking about all of these responses I realized you could experience them all at a picnic so I used acrylic paint on a piece of plywood to paint the landscape backdrop based on my experience visiting Pedernales Falls State Park in Texans. To get it "just right" I also used a few reference photos. Then I staged objects in the foreground to represent the other answers on a red and white checkered picnic tablecloth.
