Meet Makani! She was born and raised in Las Vegas to self-described hippie parents. Together her siblings, dogs, cats, and horses, they lived on a ranchita (small ranch) just outside of town. She said her childhood was mostly spent outside enjoying nature.
Last summer in the devastating Calf Canyon / Hermit's Peak wildfire they lost their home and all their outbuildings. But more than the loss of "stuff" she was affected by the loss of the forest. It was a shattering experience for the whole family and now they are working together to rebuild and heal the forest.
It's been an honor to get to know her and her story while painting her portrait.
